If you want to get your foot in the door with freelancing to be a social media management expert. I can assure you that if you are strategic and analytical and you know your way around social media. there's huge potential for you but baby steps.  let's get started with what exactly is social media management.

Social media management is basically managing brands and their online presence in order to get more sales eventually. Usually, there are different objectives that different brands have from time to time but the end result for almost every business is sales.

Make Sale From Your Business

If you're not making sales and profit you have to be a social media management expert to grow big your business. Remember that there are different types of businesses today right. Mainly the distinction that we make is product-based businesses and service-based businesses.

Product-based businesses would be something like climb a the sold store. Anyone who's selling a product they are a product-based business.

So chumbucket sold stored they have their online presence in Instagram, Facebook, and on other social media platforms. Right there's a person managing this presence and that person is their social media manager. Now, these are some large-scale brands of course.

There are smaller businesses that also need to have a social media presence today.

Who wants to be a social media management expert.

Because although it's it might seem like just posting there's so much more that goes behind the scenes. This is exactly why a social media manager is needed. Now there are different platforms where you can become a social media expert.

The most common ones to start with are Instagram FaceBook. A lot of people are also using Linkedin and Pinterest these days. Some brands also resort to Twitter which is not my expertise but these are basically the most popular forms of social media. that people use today.

The second type of business is service-based businesses. Service-based businesses would be something like what I do who are consultants coaches maybe they offer some kind of service to their clients. this kind of person also has a social media presence.

Service-Based Businesses

The second type of business would be service-based businesses. This is basically where someone is offering a service and not a product. A very popular doctor with whom you can book a consultation online be a fitness coach a doctor.

A financial coach with whom you can book consultations or you can get on a call with them in exchange for a fee. and these kinds of people also want to be social media management experts.

Because the more of the people know them the more the people will come to them to book their services. So there's basically a huge distinction between product-based businesses and service-based businesses. It's highly recommended that you choose either of the two I've worked in both but I am personally inclined towards service-based businesses.

Even mine is a service-based business so that's their product-based businesses are fun as well.

Basically for both of these types of businesses to get salespeople to have to know that these people brands these products. These services exist right how would you make people aware through social media. So you start making content geared to attract an audience towards you.

If you see chipmunk will probably post a lot of attractive images of products that will decorate your room soul store post picture of their clothes that look really really good on you especially.

If you are belonging to certain kinds of fandoms they post content related to that to attract people to their website and buy from them for service-based businesses. The content creation will be made in such a manner that people get more aware of the service that the person provides.

For example, I'm a fitness coach and I want bookings of one-on-one consultations. I will probably want to educate people on health and tell them probably what the five things that they should eat if they want a fit body. 10 things they should avoid if they want to lose fat okay valuable stuff in my niche.

Probably I'll post all this on social media people might find this attractive and follow me. When this person who is following me will need health advice professional advice. They'll probably book a call with me all right so these are two different types of businesses.

Both of them have different strategies to attract clients as social media management experts. You will be the person who will be making the strategy and managing it on social media.

Social Media Managers

There are also social media managers who don't do anything regarding strategy they just post whatever they are given. But I don't recommend being someone like that. Because then it will you would be very replaceable.

Now, where do you exactly do social media management it can be any platform. It can be FaceBook Instagram Twitter Pinterest Linkedin etc. These are the most popular platforms personally my expertise is with FaceBook and Instagram. So I would not recommend a lot on the other platforms Linkedin.

I have used it personally to get clients. But I've never handled Linkedin for any client yet I love to do that sometimes though but yeah coming back.

So as a social media expert, You make sure that content is being pushed out on writing and gearing on a regular basis. You are engaging within the community people are finding the content helpful. You are writing and gearing the content in such a manner that people are getting attracted to the brand.

Make sure that you're actually making the right content to attract the right kind of audience. So that they actually end up buying from the brand that you're working with all right.

All of this takes a lot of effort you can't just post anything and see results of course. So it takes a lot of experience to become a good social media manager.

Any brand needs a proper social media management expert if they want sales. I have personally worked with main coaches. I've also worked in some product-based businesses. I did not enjoy it that much since my major experience is in the coaching niche.

Most coaches have two types of programs one is the one-on-one consultation. Which usually costs higher because they are giving personal energy to each and every person.

Group Coaching:

The second is their course which is more of a group coaching kind of a thing almost all coaches have these two models and it is pretty helpful to work with coaches only for me personally. Because I know exactly what I'm going into but if you're starting off today you don't have to niche down right now.

You can be a generalist explore different types of work in social media management. Then decide what you are going to niche down to all right this is advice that I also give you don't start niching down when you're starting off.

It actually makes your journey harder niching on is important in the long run. But you can't expect someone to nest down if they don't even know what they are getting into right.

They'll probably tell you niche down decide what you want to do which is fair. The problem is that when you're starting off with any freelance field, not just social media management. You will be very confused regarding your personal skill sets what are your strengths.

So it's a lot like school what do we do in the first 10 years we study a lot of subjects. We choose a couple of subjects probably to specialize in college similarly in freelancing. If you're starting off with any sort of work you should work with different types of clients first at least for six months.

Then decide what are your strengths niching down comes after knowing what you're actually good at all right.

Keep this advice in your mind:

keep this advice in your mind now I hope that you're clear on what exactly social media management is and how to get started. let's give you a step-by-step plan on some platforms that you can get started with. I will recommend that you start with Instagram and Facebook.

Because there the demand is the highest and it's also pretty easy to learn FaceBook and Instagram marketing compared to Linkedin and YouTube and Twitter.

These two platforms are the easiest. You can choose these two or any other two as well. Don't overwhelm yourself with having to learn five or six platforms right at the beginning.

I don't think it is going to help you in any way. It will take you months to learn anything with just FaceBook and Instagram. You can get a good grasp within a month. So firstly choose any two platforms you want to offer the services.

Build a very simple portfolio:

Next what you do is build a very simple portfolio. A simple portfolio will include some graphics may be that you've designed. A strategy that you've made probably for Instagram or FaceBook.

Maybe some sort of results that you've gotten for yourself or for some kind of account you've managed in the past. Your first portfolio will be the ugliest portfolio. You've ever made but you need to make this in order to get your next client. Now the moment your simple portfolio is ready.

You should start looking for clients and you know what the best way to look for your first client is by looking around you.

For international clients actually pays you so much more but when you're starting off it can be hard. So what you can do? Just ask around in your clothes friend circles ask your family members' relatives if they have a business.

For example, you have an uncle who has a jewelry store and they don't have any online presence offer to do their social media for them for a week for free.

Do your best on their social media platforms and if you get any results propose that you will be handling their social media for a month and you'll be charging some money to get started with.

This is a very minimal amount and I'm pretty sure if you are good at what you're doing. They'll be able to afford this is a strategy that has worked very well. I actually had a relative who needed my service. So it worked out very well the only tip that I'll give here. It is maybe you work for this person for one week free in order to prove your expertise.

If you're actually capable enough to do this or not but after a week you start charging them. People who actually have the ability to pay you so just like the example.

I gave let's say you have an uncle who has a jewelry shop and you have a friend who's starting a startup your uncle's jewelry shop probably has a lot of revenue.

Because they've been doing it for years but your friend is starting up this year. In this way step by step, you will be a perfect social media manager expert.
